General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

On May 25th 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect across the EU. It is a new law that has been implemented in exactly the same way across all EU countries to create a level set of rules to ensure all data held and processed by organisations within the EU is secure and is processed lawfully.

Public organisations, including schools, are required to comply with GDPR in the same way as businesses. The GDPR requires schools to identify the lawful basis for storing personal data and audit information we already hold.  It also introduces new individual rights relating to personal data, such as the right to erasure or the right to rectification.

Oxspring Primary School has always highly valued and protected all of its pupil, parent/carer and staff information – and will continue to do so in line with GDPR legislation.

It is important that we keep comprehensive and up to date records on our pupils and their contact, medical and consent information.  This is particularly essential in times of an emergency or where a school wide message requires your attention.

Oxspring Primary School already has strong Data Protection policies and protections in place, and these are now being updated and reviewed by the governing body in line with GDPR. This means that the school website will be updated with improved policies (for example Data Protection, E-Safety, Consent) and you have already received information about our updated privacy notices. Parent/Carers have also received letters and updates from school regarding GDPR. Please see the links to the documents below.

It is really important that you read, and respond promptly, to any correspondence from school on this matter. Thank you.

Oxspring Primary School has a designated Data Protection Officer (DPO), who is helping to guide our school and work to ensure full compliance with the new GDPR. The DPO can be contacted with any queries using the following email address or in writing to our school:

Mr Tim Pinto
